Let the little ones come to me
From the Gospel of Perfect Life - Chapter 28
Jesus frees the rabbits and pigeons
1. And one day, when Jesus finished his speech, in a place near Tiberias, where there are seven sources, it happened that a young man brought him live rabbits and pigeons to consume them with his disciples.
2. And Jesus looked lovingly at the young man and said to him, "You have a good heart, and God will enlighten you, yet you do not know that in the beginning God gave the fruits of the earth to man, and did not diminish them as the monkey or the ox or the horse or the sheep, that he should kill his fellow creatures and consume their flesh or blood?
3. You know that Moses truly commanded to sacrifice and consume such creatures, and so you do in the temple; but behold, a greater than Moses is here, and come to abolish and restore the blood-sacrifices of the law and the feasts, the pure gift and the bloodless sacrifice, as it was in the beginning, the grains and fruits of the earth.
4. You shall not eat of what you offer God in purity, for the hour will come when your blood sacrifices and festivals will cease, and you will worship God in holiness and with a pure sacrifice.
5. Therefore release the creatures, that they rejoice in God, and do not put men to blame. "And the young man set them free, and Jesus broke their cages and their fetters.
6. But behold, though they were in danger of being caught again, they did not flee. And he said to them and told them to go and they obeyed his words and hurried with joy.
7. At the time when they were six at the spring, Jesus rose and cried, "Let those who thirst come to me and drink, for I will give them of the water of life.
8. From the hearts of those who believe in me, streams will flow, and what is given to them, they will speak with power and their teaching will be like living water. "
9. (This he said of the spirit which those who believed in him should attain, for the fullness of the Spirit was not yet poured out, since Jesus was not yet transfigured.)
10. "He who drinketh of the water which I give will never thirst, for the water that comes from God will be in them as the spring which springs up into eternal life."
