How We Can Truly Do Good for Our Spiritual Brothers and Sisters

BTL 10 – I. 287 : 54 + 31

     31. The first step toward the renewal of human beings, in order to attain a state of spiritual elevation, is mercy. Mercy toward the soul, mercy toward the body, mercy toward one’s neighbors. Yet I must tell you that this feeling has not been correctly interpreted: mercy is a name you give to certain actions you perform, which in most cases do not, at their core, contain compassion or a genuine intention to alleviate suffering.

     32. Your human feelings are still far removed from reality. Therefore, you must always keep in mind the words and deeds of Jesus on earth as the living and true example of mercy.

     33. What will become of a soul when it has obscured true mercy with forms that contain nothing but hypocrisy? Its awakening will be most painful on the day it comes into contact with its conscience and hears that voice that loves justice and is unrelenting.

     54. You, children of men: You have always sensed the existence of invisible beings who float through space, who sometimes approach you, who surround you, and at the thought that they might be souls who are suffering, you have tried to do something for them. The intention has been good, but you have always lacked the knowledge necessary for that mercy to be effective. Until now, you have not known the right way to kindle the light within those beings who are confused or tormented by pangs of conscience.

     55. You have offered them ostentatious ceremonies and gifts, and although you were able to soothe your own hearts, they received nothing, because what belongs to the world no longer belongs to them and no longer reaches them. These beings seek spiritual compassion, comfort, love, and understanding. But how can one offer them spiritual help? My Word also explains to you the way to show mercy to those whom you cannot even see.

     56. If you truly wish to do something good for your spiritual brothers and sisters, and at the same time wish to free yourselves from their negative influences, you must pray for them with a heartfelt prayer full of compassion and uplifting thoughts. If you feel that they manifest themselves in your human life in any way, set good examples for them and perform good deeds so that they may absorb light for their souls. Give them the opportunity to see you heal the sick, to see you forgive those who have offended you, to see noble ideas shine in your mind, and to hear only good words on your lips.

     57. What duties do you have toward them, and what duties do they have toward you? What debts have you incurred toward one another? You do not know, but truly, I tell you, it is no coincidence that they are placed in people’s paths; there is always a reason when they draw near to their human brothers and sisters.
