BTL 10 – U. 280:16–25
16. To those who believe that I punish people by unleashing the forces of nature upon them, I say that they are falling into a great error when they think this way. For nature develops and changes, and during its changes or transitions, upheavals arise that cause you suffering if you do not fulfill My law; yet you attribute them to divine punishments.
True, My justice is at work in them; yet if you—beings favored with the divine spark that illuminates your soul—lived in harmony with the nature that surrounds you, your spirit would have lifted you above the transformations and the power of the forces of nature, and you would not suffer.

17. Only by improving your lives can you find the power or ability to free yourselves from the effects of the unbridled elements. For it is not only faith or prayer that are the weapons granting you victory over the blows of fate and the adversities of life: that faith and that prayer must be accompanied by a virtuous, pure, and good life.
18. If you have often remained unscathed through your faith or through prayer, it is more through My compassion for you than through your own merit that you have triumphed in your trials.
19. Understand why, in each of My teachings, I tell you to prepare yourselves and at the same time urge you to watch and pray, so that you may attain that spiritualization which brings you into harmony with everything that surrounds you in your life, making you invulnerable to the workings of the forces of nature when they are set in motion.
20. It is necessary for you to understand the time you are currently living through—a time of transition not only in the spiritual realm but also in the material nature that surrounds you.
21. Know that this home that shelters you is currently taking a step toward perfection in order to welcome higher beings in the future, and so it is only natural that you are experiencing upheavals.
22. It is a time of confusion that is reflected in people’s lives—in their minds, in their souls, in their emotions, in their bodies, and in everything that envelops and surrounds them. People are suffering because they have entered this time of trials without spiritual preparation, without faith, without awareness of their abilities, and without prayer.
23. Only My power and My love can save you from perishing in the chaos.
24. Lift up your lives, O people; train yourselves in this Word of Light that I send you, and truly, I tell you that not only will you save yourselves, but your influence and your protection will also reach many of your fellow human beings.
25. Remember Jesus when He was sailing across the sea in a boat with His disciples. The waves grew higher, the sea foamed, and the waves were raging. The disciples feared for their lives when they saw that Jesus was sleeping. They had lacked the faith to save themselves. But the Master’s love helped them by giving them proof of His power over the elements when He stretched out His right hand and commanded the raging waters to be still.
26. Those lessons were new to humanity. But you, the disciples of the Third Era, should reflect on the fact that you must not merely live in the confidence that I will ultimately save you out of compassion, as I did the disciples in the boat, but that you must develop within yourselves the spiritual powers that have not yet manifested in your being.
