Thousands of Israeli extremists stormed the Al-Aqsa compound during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot
More than 800 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound occupying East Jerusalem Thursday morning under the protection of Israeli forces.
Rabbis, heads of settlement associations and far-right university lecturers were among the 832 people who stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound Thursday morning.
It comes during the Jewish religious holiday of Sukkot, which began Sept. 29 and ends Friday. Thousands of Israeli extremists stormed the Al-Aqsa compound during the vacation, and nearly 1,500 entered the site on Monday.
Israeli extremists also continued to stage provocative marches Thursday both inside the Old City of Jerusalem and outside the walls, attacking Palestinians and their property.
They also beat and spat at journalists in a market area near Al-Aqsa, where stores were forced to close for the sixth consecutive day.
The Old City is home to Al-Aqsa as well as the Wailing Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
The Al-Aqsa site is the third holiest site in Islam and the most important Muslim site in Palestine.
Some Jews believe the site is home to a Jewish temple believed to have existed there in ancient times.
Many Jewish extremists would like to either destroy the mosque and replace it with a temple or divide the site between Muslims and Jews in terms of time and space.
While non-Muslims can visit the holy site, prayers at Al-Aqsa are reserved solely for Muslims under the long-standing status quo agreement that governs the site.

- Small arms left behind by the U.S. Army after its disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 have made their way to Palestinian resistance groups in the Gaza Strip, according to an anonymous senior Israeli military officer who spoke to Newsweek.
- The officer's comments came after he expressed "concern" that U.S. weapons flooding the battlefield in Ukraine could end up "in the hands of Israel's enemies."
- Just two months after the Taliban regained control of the country, the New York Times (NYT) reported, "Dozens of Afghans have opened gun stores in southern Afghanistan, selling American-made pistols, rifles, grenades, binoculars and night-vision goggles."
- In addition, disenchanted members of the U.S.-trained Afghan army reportedly sold their service weapons to "traveling arms dealers" at government bases for months before the U.S. withdrawal.
- Earlier this year, U.S. weapons turned up in Indian-controlled Kashmir after Pakistani groups allegedly bought them from the Taliban.
- The claim that U.S. weapons have been found in Gaza comes at a time when the Israeli army is conducting its raids in the occupied West Bank with greater frequency and intensity.
- The Palestinian resistance has increased its arsenal to counter Israeli attacks, mainly by buying black market weapons from Israeli sources.

Wikileaks dispatches: Israeli intelligence chief encourages Hamas to conquer Gaza Strip
The latest revelation from the hundreds of thousands of leaked diplomatic cables made available by the website "Wikileaks" shows a diplomatic exchange between the then director of Israeli military intelligence, Major General Amos Yadlin, and the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Richard Jones, which revealed that Israel supported Hamas' takeover of Gaza and was able to declare Gaza "enemy territory." In June 2007, Hamas was able to form a government in Gaza after months of takeover attempts by the U.S.-backed Fateh Party. The telegram in question was recorded just hours before the formation of the Hamas government in Gaza in June 2007.
